4-19 - Enumeration of all that would have to be crafted for the tabernacle
20-29 - And the people responded. Indication that even in the Old Testament, gifts were given out of gratitude, not compulsion
- "whose heart was stirred"
- "whose spirit was willing"
- "both men and women"
- "of a willing heart"
- Everyone who possessed blue or purple; could offer silver or bronze; possessed acacia wood
- All the skillful women
- All whose hearts made them willing
Exodus 36 - The Israelites are too generous.
- 1-7 - Bezalel & Oholiah receive freewill offerings.
- v. 5 - "The people are bringing much more than enough!"
- v. 6 - Moses to people: No more offerings! "So the people were restrained from bringing."
- 8-38 - Construction of tabernacle - according to God's pattern as given to Moses on the mountain
Verse of note: v. 6 "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD my whole life long."
Acts 10 - Peter & Cornelius
Cornelius:
- Prayed constantly
- Obeyed immediately
- Was praying when he fell into the trance
- Objected to the command at first
- After command was repeated 3 times, he was still puzzled
- Immediately obeys the command to go down to meet Cornelius's men and invites these Gentiles in
- Knew Peter would come
- Had gathered friends and family
- Fell at Peter's feet
- Makes Cornelius rise - "I am only a man."
- Cites the illegal nature of the meeting
- Preaches to the Gentiles for the first time: Jesus' baptism; signs he performed; his death, resurrection, and ordination as judge of the living and the dead
- After Gentiles receive the Holy Spirit, Peter commands them to be baptized
- Stays several days with these Gentiles
