2-5 David Prepares to Build the Temple
- Gathers together aliens to be the stonecutters

- To Solomon:
- I had planned to build this house, but the LORD forbade me, because I had waged so many wars.
- For you, though, he promised a reign of peace, and promised you would build a house for his name
- Therefore, may God grant you discretion and understanding, and may you obey him, because then you will be blessed. Be strong and of good courage
- I have provided 100,000 talents of gold, one million talents of silver, and you have an abundance of workers.

- The LORD is on your side and has delivered our enemies into my hand
- Set your minds and hearts to see God and to build his sanctuary, a place for the ark and the holy vessels of God.
1-32 Families of the Levites and Their Functions
- David -- old and full of days -- makes Solomon king
- He assembles leaders, priests and Levites 30 years and older, 38,000 total; 24,000 of whom will be in charge of the temple; 6,000 officers and judges; 4,000 gatekeepers and 4,000 to offer praise with instruments David had made.
- David organizes them into divisions corresponding to sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
