Jeremiah 24

Jeremiah 24 (During reign of Zedekiah, after Jeconiah's exile to Babylon - See notes on the Sons of Josiah - Jeremiah 22)

1-10 The Good and the Bad Figs
  • God shows Jeremiah two baskets of figs placed in front of the temple: One with just-ripe figs, and one with figs that are inedible.
  • The good figs represent those exiled to Babylon. (Besides Jeconiah, Nebuchadnezzar had also taken officials, artisans and smiths.) God will build them up and give them a heart to know that he is the LORD.
  • The bad figs are Zedekiah and his officials, those who remain in Judah and Egypt. God wil make them a disgrace and a byword and will send sword, famine and pestilence on them until they are utterly destroyed.
