1-10 The Fall of Jerusalem (9th and 10th Years of King Zedekiah)
- 9th year, 10th month - Nebuchadnezzar besieges Jerusalem
- 10th year, 4th month, 9th day - Babylonian troops breach the city
- Babylonian officials come and sit in the middle gate, causing Zedekiah and all the soldiers to flee from the city through the king's garden.
- The Chaldeans pursue them, overtake Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho, and bring him to Nebuchadnezzar, who passes sentence on him.
- They kill his sons then put out his eyes.
- They burn the houses, including the king's.
- The captain of the guard, Nebuzaradan, exiles survivors to Babylon, giving property to the poor he leaves behind.
11-18 Jeremiah Set Fee, Remembers Ebed-melech
- Nebuchadnezzar orders Nebuzaradan to release Jeremiah from the court of the guard and entrusts him to Gedaliah (son of Ahikam son of Shaphan) to be brought home, and he stays in Jerusalem with his people.
- While Jeremiah is still in the court of the guard, God tells him to go to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian and tell him that though Jerusalem will be destroyed, he will be saved because of his trust in God. Ebed-melech had rescued Jeremiah from the cistern by telling the king he was there 28:7-13.
