1-10 Proclamation against the King of Tyre
1-5 Ezekiel is to tell the king of Tyre: Because you see yourself as a god, with the mind of a god, wiser than Daniel, knowing all secrets, with great wealth and wisdom in trade…
6-8 …I will bring a terrible nation of strangers against you, who will defile your splendor and throw you into the Pit.
9-10 Will you still say “I am a god”?
11-19 Lamentation over the King of Tyre
11-15 You were perfect, wise and beautiful, covered with every precious stone, protected by an anointed cherub, on the holy mountain of God, blameless in all your ways – until iniquity was found in you.
16-18 In the abundance of your trade you became violent and sinful, proud and corrupt, so I cast you from the mountain of God, the guardian cherub drove you out; I exposed you before kings, consumed you with your own fire and turned you to ashes.
19 All who knew you are appalled at you.
20-24 Proclamation against Sidon
Ezekiel is to prophesy against Sidon:
22-23 I am against you, and will gain glory when I execute judgments on you, sending pestilence, bloodshed, and the sword – and they shall know that I am the LORD.
24 They will no longer be a brier or thorn against their neighbors Israel. And they shall know that I am the LORD God.
25-26 Future Blessing for Israel
- When I gather my people from the lands where they have been scattered, they shall settle on their own soil.
- They will live in safety, building houses and planting vineyards, after I execute judgment on their neighbors.
- And they shall know that I am the LORD their God. This time they shall identify God as LORD because of his blessings. They shall also identify him not only as the LORD but their LORD.
