Ezra 6

1-12 The Decree of Darius


1-5 By Darius's order, the decree is found in Ecbatana, the Mede capital, confirming what the Jews had said, even giving the dimensions of the temple and stating it is to be funded from the royal treasury.

6-12 Darius orders Tattenai to allow the building and to give them whatever they need "that they may offer pleasing sacrifices to the God of heaven, and pray for the life of the king and his children." Anyone who alters the edict shall be impaled on a beam pulled out of his own house.

13-18 Completion and Dedication of the Temple

13-15 Tattenai and Shetharbozenai obey the decree, building is continued and finished in the month of Adar, on the 3rd day, in the 6th year of Darius's reign

16-18 Israel celebrates and dedicates 100 bulls, 200 rams, 400 lambs and sin offering of 12 male goats. They also set priests and Levites in their designated places according to the law of Moses.

19-22 Passover Celebrated

19-22 All Israel, including all the exiles, celebrate Passover in the first month, 14th day, “by all who had…separated themselves from the pollutions of the nations of the land.”
