Acts 17
1-9 - Uproar in Thessalonica
- Paul preaches in the synagogue. Some Jews, devout Greeks, and leading women believe
- Jealous Jews form a mob and attack Jason's house, where Paul and Silas are staying
- 7 - Another spin. Jews accuse Paul and Silas of trying to overthrow the government -- a cover-up of their jealousy.
- Many believe - "Jews were more receptive than those in Thessalonica."
- Thessalonian Jews come and stir up crowds
- Paul goes to Athens to wait for Silas and Timothy to join him
- "Deeply distressed" by all the idols
- Argues with Jews and devout persons in synagogues and in marketplace with anyone there.
- Debates Epicurean and Stoic philosophers
- They call him a "babbler," proclaiming "foreign divinities."
- But they're curious, and Paul preaches to them.
- 30 - "commands all people everywhere to repent." This is in the context of pagans and Jews. "The world will be judged by a man God appointed, whom he raised from the dead." How much more exclusive can you get?
- 32 - Some scoffed, some would hear more; others believed. Some closed their minds; others were curious; others were receptive -- to the same message.
