Leviticus 13-14; Psalm 27:7-14; Acts 17

Leviticus 13 - Leprosy - Varieties and Symptoms

Leviticus 14 - Purification of Lepers and Leprous Houses
  • 2 birds - one slaughtered, the other dipped in blood of the first and released
  • Sacrifice of 2 male lambs or, if possible, one lamb and one flour offering and two turtledoves or pigeons
  • Priest anoints cleansed leper with oil
  • House - infected stones removed; plaster scraped and replaced
  • Offering - 2 birds - one slaughtered, one released
Psalm 27:7-14
v. 10 - "If my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will take me up."

Acts 17
1-9 - Uproar in Thessalonica
  • Paul preaches in the synagogue. Some Jews, devout Greeks, and leading women believe
  • Jealous Jews form a mob and attack Jason's house, where Paul and Silas are staying
  • 7 - Another spin. Jews accuse Paul and Silas of trying to overthrow the government -- a cover-up of their jealousy.
10-15 - In Beroea
  • Many believe - "Jews were more receptive than those in Thessalonica."
  • Thessalonian Jews come and stir up crowds
  • Paul goes to Athens to wait for Silas and Timothy to join him
16-32 - Paul in Athens
  • "Deeply distressed" by all the idols
  • Argues with Jews and devout persons in synagogues and in marketplace with anyone there.
  • Debates Epicurean and Stoic philosophers
  • They call him a "babbler," proclaiming "foreign divinities."
  • But they're curious, and Paul preaches to them.
  • 30 - "commands all people everywhere to repent." This is in the context of pagans and Jews. "The world will be judged by a man God appointed, whom he raised from the dead." How much more exclusive can you get?
  • 32 - Some scoffed, some would hear more; others believed. Some closed their minds; others were curious; others were receptive -- to the same message.
