Zechariah 5

1-4 Sixth Vision: The Flying Scroll

Zechariah looks up and sees a 20-cubit by 10-cubit flying scroll. The angel tells him this is a curse that goes out over the earth and cuts off all those who steal and lie, who swear falsely by God’s name.

5-11 Seventh Vision: The Woman in a Basket

5-8 Zechariah again looks up and sees a lead-covered basket. When the cover is removed, he sees a woman, whom the angel calls “Wickedness.” Then the angel closes the lid on her.

9-11 Two more women with stork wings lift up the basket. The angel tells Zechariah they are taking the basket to Shinar, to build a house for it. Shinar in Genesis 10:10 is the location of Babylon, so the house containing Wickedness will be in the land of the enemies of God’s people. A reference to the Jews’ captivity in Babylon because of their wickedness.
